UK government has been significantly working to strengthen the ventilators production in the light of the coronavirus epidemic in the country. As per the Worldometer, Italy ranked sixth in the total cases of coronavirus across the globe with 157,149 by 27th April 2020. As a result, the government has been taking steps to accelerate the ventilators production. On 27th March 2020, The National Health Service, UK had over 8,000 ventilators, however, the UK government needs minimum 30,000 to fight against the coronavirus. For dealing with the shortage, the UK government plans to quickly purchase several thousand ventilators from foreign countries and take spare capacity from private hospitals, as well as work with current ventilator manufacturers in the effort to leverage production quickly. The government asked UK’s major producers to support develop essential medical equipment including ventilators as the spread of coronavirus worsens. The country ordered 10,000 ventilators to Dyson, a British appliance maker, which is famous for its highly engineered hand dryers and vacuum cleaners. Another approach taken by the government involves sanctioning an open call for proposals for rapid production of ventilators that could support fill the gap.
